As the US begins to recover and rebuild after Hurricane Katrina distrayed great parts of New Orleans, the second hurricane in less than a month is heading its way. The hurricane passed Florida on Tuesday 20th and now thousands in Texas and western Louisiana are being told to evacuate as the catagory 5 hurricane is on its way.

Hydrological cycle

The hydrological cycle is a closed system. No water enters or leaves the system, it only moves around and changes state.

The University of Illinois - Department of atmospherical sciences web site has information on many of the processes in the hydrological cycle.

Drainage Basin

A drainage basin is an area around a river, any water that falls within this area will end up in that rivers system.

On 25th August 2005 hruuicane Katrina hit the south coast of Florida, 3 days later it hit New Orleans. The BBC has an animation of the path of Katrina.

Also on the BBC webiste is an animated guide to hurricanes which demonstrates how a hurricane is formed and the possible effects.
